Meet Nicole Kelner, Ollie at Carmel Place Community Manager
What were you doing before you joined Ollie: I fell in love with the coliving when I lived in the Co.Space, Penn State's first coliving community designed for change-makers. After graduation, I worked as a Program Manager for Hacker Paradise, a nomadic community of engineers and entrepreneurs traveling the world together. I planned weekly community dinners and outings such as surfing in Bali, 3 course dinner cruises in Vietnam, and hiking the tallest mountain of Thailand.
Most memorable event at Carmel Place: The 1920's Murder Mystery Party! I loved seeing everyone get all dressed up in suits and flapper costumes.
Favorite thing about New York City: I love the diversity in passions people have here. You never know who you are going to talk to on the Subway or in line.
Must-try restaurant: Little Basil on 26th and 3rd! It's an amazing restaurant that has very authentic Thai food. We actually had it catered for our last community dinner and everyone loved it.
Favorite activity in the city: Rock climbing. I love going to Dumbo Boulders, it is right on the water and under the Brooklyn Bridge. You get to rock climb with an incredible view on the entire city!
Best app for experiencing New York: I love volunteering with DEED, an app that curates volunteer opportunities in New York. My favorite so far was volunteering at Gallop NYC, an organization that provides children with a disabilities access to therapeutic horseback riding.
Best insider's tip: I love the community gardens in New York! They are so peaceful and quiet. My favorite one is on 6th street and Avenue B, it's incredibly green and has a secret tree-house that is perfect for reading.
Strategically located in Manhattan’s Kips Bay neighborhood, residents at Carmel Place have easy access to an endless variety of dining, entertainment and transportation options. Home to rare amenities such as Kips Bay Plaza, a commercial strip mall, and the Dover Street Market, a multi-level retail fashion and concept store, Kips Bay is also situated near the world’s most prestigious medical establishments and institutional buildings. Its east side location also allows residents a quick escape from the chaotic city to the water front, Stuyvesant Cove Park and East River Park.
